Rendering Isometric view (ortho) doesn't work with physicalCamera

Hi there.

I'm working on my first project with Solidworks and its a blast.
The only problem is I need to make some isometric (orthographic) views of my project.

the only way to do this with vray (correct me if I'm wront) is using a standard camera and setting the camera mode in the render setup to ortho.

with these settings I can't use solidrocks since it requirse a vrayphysical camera.
is there a way around this issue? so I can use solidrocks powerfull renderings for my ortho visualisation without going back to tweacking every mindboggling seating?

Thanks!!

Avi.

Hi !

first of all i've to say that SolidRock don't need a Vrayphysical camera in order to work ;)
only the AutoExpo and white balance tools needs it.

but with a standard camera you'll need to adjust sun multiplier (perhaps 0.01) to get almost the same exposure, and you need to adjust exposure manually (via color mapping multiplier and/or divide by 100 you lights power...

Vray actually does NOT have orthgraphic cameras... so i can't do anything about that..

one thing you can try to "simulate" an almost ortho view with Vrayphysical cam :
- set your VrayPhyscam focal length to 1000-2000 (just like a huge zooming) and move backwards your cam to compensate to huge zoom. Like this, the perspective will be almost negligible du to the far distance, just like in the "real" cameras world ;)

Hope it helps !

Thanks Jerome,

Your the man! although I got a satisfing resault using the standard camera. using focal of 2k on the physical camera with SR made a huge diffrence! SR expusre and wb are still pretty powerfull to give up :P

I noticed that SR changes the settings on the render setup but can you maybe post steps on using SR without a physical camera just to make sure?
what to do first, set up scence, launch SR set to save on exit? then what? do a miniprevie? quit SR just render..
not really sure. if I chose save to VRAY on exit and render with the standard render dialuge am I still using SR's settings? its a little confusing on the tech` part.

I'm guessing this has something to do with the uniquness of the vrayphysical camera but I'll still ask: how does SR gets its great expusre since I'm unable to recrate it on the standard camera and max's expusre contruls.

Thanks for your great and fast assistance!

i'll try to do something but without vrayphyscam it's basically a matter of ligth powers to setup exposure...
you can also use the color mapping multiplier as global exposure control, but i'm not familiar with that. i think it can work like that, with manuelly checking results with some minipreviews...

you can use the "applu SR to vray on exit" + apply light&mats to have the full SR settings when SR is off.
the only thing you can't get that way (with SR off) are :
- autoexpo and autoWB
- shareligthcache tool
- clay tool
- autosave
- interactive gamma correction.

note : if you quit SR whith gamma correction on, then just before quitting, SR will configure you max to apply the last gamma correction for next renders ;)

So you can get Gamma correction on exit. you only lose autoexpo and WB (which is kinda important but the least)
as I said setting the VrayPhyscam focal length to 1000-2000 was a good method. hard to manipulate do to the zooming issue. but overall a compremise.

yes you loose AWB and AEX when you close Sr, but you can open it when you want to use them..

and normally when you close SR for special use, or manual Vray settings polishing, your expo is already made ;)

For the ortho camera, just post your wish in Vray official forum.. ;)
