Dynamic memory limit

How does SR calculate this? I'm guessing based on ram...or it's fixed at about 1500MB for everyone?

I encountered a problem. I have this older exterior scene where I use multiscatter, all grass, trees and bushes are 3d...so I need A LOT of memory for that scene. I just left it to render with SR and when I got back, estitame was 11 hours!

I canceled and set dynamic memory limit to 4500MB as I usually do for scenes like this and it rendered in no time.

Any way of approaching this with SR?

SR computes like this : 5% of total ram * cpu count.

You're right, this need to be improved !
Now with some experience and user feedback looks like taking total ram - 2GB (enough for windows) is the best way.

note : some users also use lot of things while computing a picture : photoshop, outlook, compositing program, etc..

Perhaps adding some buttons will be good ? (like balanced, optimized and aggressive... )?

Yes, something like that should be right.

What about my LWF question? Maybe I didn't explain nicely. Basically I'm unsure when I click "apply settings on exit" or when I dodn't how should I approach my materials. Sometimes material editor darkens (I'm used to it being in gamma 2.2) and looks like default when you install max, and sometimes it returns to gamma corrected.

I'm affraid SR won't double correct gamma if I have MAX already set to 2.2....also input is 2.2, and material editor.

Well it depends on the gamma config of the scene before launching SR...
I'll investigate a bit more..
Are you using max 2012 or 2013 ?

I'm on 2009 lol
Please see attached to see my gamma setup. It's a straight forward LWF, right?

Basically, I want to know how to approach using SR when MAX is set for LWF. It always gives me head aches, not SR, but LWF, will it be double corrected if I do this or that :)

The new memory limit will be implemented in next SR? Maybe you could just put it in edit preset, so we can adjust it there manually, since now I can't render my heavy scenes directly from SR.
