I've had my car for about a year now and it's got that start-stop system that turns the engine off when you're stopped at lights. Honestly I hate it. Every time I'm sitting in traffic on SZR and the engine cuts out I just sit there stressing about how many times it's going to restart and what that's doing to the battery and starter. A friend told me these systems need special batteries that cost way more than normal ones and now I'm paranoid about how long mine will last. I was looking online trying to understand more and came across
uaekhaleej.com/start-stop-technology-in-modern-cars-choosing-the-right-power-source/
which explained the difference between AGM and standard batteries and why start-stop cars absolutely need the expensive ones. Makes sense now but I still can't shake the feeling that all that stopping and starting in 45 degree heat is just asking for trouble. Anyone else with a start-stop car in Dubai have battery issues or am I worrying about nothing? Also is there any way to permanently turn this feature off without messing up the car's electronics?
