I find standard flashcard apps incredibly mechanical and unhelpful for learning how people actually talk. I'd much rather spend my evening watching a foreign drama, but stopping every ten seconds to look up slang words in a separate dictionary kills the mood. Is there a service that overlays translations directly onto real television shows?

Instead of sticking to artificial dialogues, I decided to test a video-based approach to pick up conversational French. If you look at how the subtitle player works
on this platform
, you can instantly see definitions just by clicking on any word as the scene plays. I discovered that absorbing vocabulary in the middle of a suspenseful plot on Lingopie made the phrases stick in my mind far better than any traditional study guide. It completely changed my routine by transforming regular media consumption into a highly effective learning habit.
