Good evening folks. My son wants a gaming PC for his birthday and I know next to nothing about hardware. I've got a budget of about 900 dollars and a list of parts from a friend, but I'd like to double-check that the graphics card and processor actually make sense together. I keep hearing the word bottleneck. He mostly plays Fortnite and Minecraft for now, but I'm sure he'll want heavier games in a year or two. Is there a site where a non-expert can look things up and compare without reading forum threads for a week?

Good on you for double-checking instead of just trusting the list. The H2Bench website is pretty friendly for this. There's a PC Builder where you can save and compare builds, plus a section that tries to spot the bottleneck and tells you which part gives the biggest gain if you upgrade it. They also have a price/performance view, handy when the budget is fixed. My brother-in-law used it for his kid's build and caught that his friend had paired a mid-range card with a CPU that was overkill. One caveat: their library of real measured game runs is still small, so for FPS in specific games, treat it as a rough guide. It also makes it easy to show your son the options and let him pick between two good choices. What CPU and GPU are on the list?
