Hi everyone. I am on the board of a 40-unit co-op in Park Slope. Our entry system is ancient: metal keys that get copied all the time, a buzzer that half works, and we have no idea who has keys anymore. Packages are getting stolen from the lobby. The board wants a modern system with key fobs or phone access and some kind of video at the door, but we have zero experience and a limited reserve fund. Has any building here done this recently? Most residents are older and not very techy. Who handled it and how did residents adjust?

Our 32-unit building in Prospect Heights went through exactly this last year. The board picked 4Wires for the apartment building access control installation www.4wires.com/ and the main improvement is that every fob is tied to a resident, so when someone moves out you just deactivate it, no more copied keys floating around. Every entry is logged, which helped with the package problem. They also put in an intercom with video at the front door, residents can open it from their phone. For older residents who do not use smartphones, fobs work fine. They did a free estimate and helped us phase the project to fit the reserve fund. The first two weeks we had some complaints about fob setup, but it settled quickly. Do you have a separate service entrance too?
