Slate problem ? here's a method ! was created by subburb
Hello !
Some users have some problems with slate editor and SR.
Materials opened in Slate looses the connection with scene.
We're working on this problem, but in waiting, here's a simple solution :
At each render, SR parses materials in scene and change subdivs. When render is done, it put back your subdivs values. At this moment the slate junction is lost.
What you can do is to apply "one big time" this subdivs optimisations on materials and then avoid to do them for each render.
Here's how to do this :
- make a copy of your scene
- Launch SR
- Open init/save panel
- Click on Apply optimisations to scene "Materials" button.
- Now all scene materials have been modified.
- now, open the options panel
- Check OFF the "auto glossies subdivs" button.
Now you can use Slate with SR

Hello ,
I tried following your instructions about saving the settings , but I cannot find the following tab(button) "Click on Apply optimizations to scene "Materials" button" . However , there is a button in "init/save" panel named "Apply SR to scene and close" . But whenever I apply this particular setting , the render gives a completely black output .
I am using 3ds MAX 2016 . Below is the link of snapshot of the button mention above with the button info : goo.gl/RTtsbh
Please provide a solution this problem .

Hello !
Yes you used the correct button to "apply" all actual SR settings permanently to your scene.
The black render is totally unexpected.
Would you please send me your scene to investigate ?
