Yes, sure you can !
Go into the init/save panel then choose "Apply SR to scene and close".
This will apply all SR settings to the scene (permanently) then it closes.
Then you cans send your scene to farm

Does SR need to be installed on server nodes prior to network rendering as opposed to baking in the SR settings?
If a file is sent without either baking SR settings or installing SR on render nodes what kind of errors would result on the render nodes?

well SR is not needed on render nodes. Only on main machine.
You "MUST" bake SR to your scene if you want to sent it to external farm.
if you are on local network, with Backburner or Vray DR, just use the "SolidRocks" RENDER button.
