Share LightCache & Batch rendering

Share LightCache & Batch rendering was created by NicolasC
Hello
I'd like to know if "Share Light Cache" option is supposed to work well when using 3dsmax Batch Render utility ? I'd rather ask because we frequently (always) use this tool for the projects we work on, to render multiple cameras by submitting either locally using DR or over the network using BB ...
Thanks !
Regards.

Hmm... Share lightcache is managed by SR.. And only useful if you use Vray DR.
Here's what going on :
when you check ON Share LC, SR do the following :
Pass1 :
- Force next render to be local (no DR, no BB..)
- switch to LC/LC, with don't render final image ON
- just save the LC file (...)
pass2 :
- render again, this time with network activated
- LC is set to from file
The goal is to avoid slaves, wich are generally slower than main PC, to compute LC, wich is useless. With Vray DR, LC cannot be distributed. Computing a first time the LC on main machine, then redo the render in DR providing the LC file to slaves may speedup the slavesreactivity.

Hello Jérôme
Thanks for the explanations, but I guess I had understood the aim and behaviour of this feature.
My question is about combining this feature with Batch Render utility. We often/always render several cameras (with several scene states generally) using the Batch Render, and then we either submitt these cameras to BB (with or without DR) or simply render locally with DR. SO I'd like to know if, in this second case (Batch Render locally with DR), Share LC feature would work ...
Thanks.

That makes me think that if you want a complementary development project, a "real" batch render utility would be an awesome addition ! not only the current version is buggy and misses a few function, but the other versions I've found (on ScripSpot for example) always have something wrong ... just a thought

you're absolutely right !
I'm working right now on new buttons in SR :
Elements, and Save.
that will help user a lot to manage if the next render will have elements in it, and if it's saved or not. very useful imo.
I'll remove the "auto-save" feature wich is useless today.
After that, i'll work on a simple but efficient batch render
