Hello :)

I'm experiencing some problems using MOAWiz and I suspect it's due to using LC for glossies ... shouldn't it be off for moving objects animations ?? my GI is almost clean (some minor flickering, but overall ok), however reflections are flicking like hell :( any idea, please ?

Thanks.

Hello Nicolas. Hmm well it may be som einterpolation on Glossies ?

another thing : as SR uses LC for glossy rays, even in animation, it should be interesting to try the "retrace corners" thing into LC.
Have alook at the bottom of this page :
help.chaosgroup.com/vray/help/300R1/examples_lightcache.htm

does is correspond to your problem ?

If yes, i can activate by default the retrace corner into SR options.

I'm thinking adding an "warning" panel wich helps user to take decisions, depending of what he's doing..

Hi Jerôme,

No, we never use Interpolation on glossies neither for reflections nor for refractions.
We're under heavy workload here, so I'll have to find some time to prepare you a stripped down scene for you to check. I guess I'll be able to send it to you on monday.

Thanks again.

Hmmm.. sorry for delay, but i had to search...

It seems that it's safe to use LC retrace option if using "use Lc for glossiness", wich is the case with SR.
Have a look in SR options.

i'm planning to set the retrace ON by default on next SR build.

btw : are you using Vray 3.0 beta ? Are you interested in beta testing the next SR build ?

Hello :)
So that means using Retrace Corners option is useless if "Use LC for glossies" is off ? I don't think so, if I understand Retrace Corners correctly. Personally, it's always on here, with a value between 0.3 - 0.5. This way, rendertime doesn't explode.

No, I'm not using VRay 3.0 beta - no more time to spend on beta stuff, like I did heavily a few years ago (finalRender, PSDManager, NodeJoe -> Slate, MDO ...). I'll wait for the final release ;)

Cheers.

hmmmm yes and no.
as far as i know, LC retrace is involved in 2 situations :
- removing light leaks on thing geometry
- if ON, the vray can decide if wheter to use the Lc or not on glossy reflections/refraction, leading to a far better result in this case. (if using "use lc for glossy rays")

the value of the retrace is a bit mysterious...
did you experienced correct glossies when value lower than 1.0 ?
It'll help to gain a bit of time here. But i've no infos about it.

Thanks for the tip.
