Clay Mode

So, I'm doing something wrong because I can't make the clay mode to work, I try with a sphere in a new file and it seems to work fine, but if I try in a more complex scene it just does not work.
I even add a new sphere to that scene, I assign to it the material to use in clay mode, and select the same material when trying clay mode but does absolutely nothing.
Any tips?
Thanks.

Hello !
Weird... can you send me a copy of your scene ? (totally private, only for testing)
Maybe you're using non regular shaders ?

That may be, I wanted to make a clay render to send it to my client before starting to put all the correct materials in the scene.
Allow me to clear a little time to prepare the file and I'll send it to you.
Thanks.

I'm sorry for the late answer.
Yes, you were right, I was trying to do a clay render with a sketchup model imported recently, so the materials were generic shaders. I had to change the materials to v-ray materials in order to be able to make a clay render, but this makes the option a little pointless for me.
Let me explain, the idea of making a clay render was to give the client a quick view of his model, having to change the materials to V-ray to be able to use the clay option is the same as taking the model and applying directly the clay material.
The idea of doing a quick render of the model is completely lost if I have to apply and detail each of the imported textures as if it were to do the final render.
Anyway, thanks for the answer. just one more question unrelated to this. Is Solidrocks compatible with VFB+?

Hmm Thanks for poiting this out.
SR *should* handle standard materials, even if they are cascaded into many multi materials...
I've to test it (again..)
Not sure about VFB+, i' have to chak it
