Question about reflection and refraction subdivisions

Question about reflection and refraction subdivisions was created by danb4026
Are these subdivisions multiplied by SR when increasing quality presets? In other words, should I keep them set low and
allow SR to do the multiplication when I change quality settings or do I need the set the values at what I would normally
change them to to increase quality when not using SR?

Hello Dan,
what subdivs are you talking about ?
Anyway, here's how SR works :
Globally yes all subdivs are multiplied as solidrocks increase the Vray global multiplier value when increasing desired quality slider.
(interior preset : medium-->glob mult = 2.0, production-->glob mult = 8)
Just click on adv.tools to see final subdivs for shadows/glossies.
More than that, there are two behaviors :
first, edit the preset (edit button) :
In this screen, you'll see two important values into GLOBAL Values section :
- Auto light shadows subdivs (default 4)
- Auto Glossies shadows subdivs (default 8)
IF you've checked, into solidrocks configuration panel, Auto Glossies subdivs, and Auto Shadows subdivs, THEN all you material glossies subdivs will be replaced at render time by this value (8) and all the shadows subdivs in lights will be replaced at render time by the preset value (4).
IF you UNcheck these options, SolidRocks will not adjust any subdivs values at rendertime and will just let your specific shadows/glossies subdivs for each light and material.
Of course in both cases, the subdivs will finally be multiplied by the global multiplier.
Hope i'm clear...
And hope it helps !!

Thanks for the response and clarification. What about 3rd party materials? I use materials from Siger Shaders very often. Their Vray materials
have their own user interface. Do you know if SR will work the same way with these materials subdivisions as well?

well...
i guess that yes, the subdivs will be multiplied by Vray global mult.
But i dont know if SR can forces the preset values in case of "optim on"
SolidRocks affect only material wich are "Vray material" type...
You can see if yes or no, i think :
Open a siger shader and make sure you can see the subdivs value.
hit the SolidRocks render button (with Auto glossies ON).
You'll see in the material if subdiv value is changed... or not
