Need help to render a 4160x3120 still image was created by lancerdoom
guys i want to render a high res image in solid rocks.
when i change the resolution the LC samples automatically increases but that's not i am worried about...
i am worried about the time to render LC samples that is 1:30 hours and you know the rest if it takes 1:30 for LC then i will take 2:00 for IR passes and next 3 hours to render that will be something like 6-7 hours..
what should i do ?
i am using IR+LC+AO method
how can i decrease the render time for 4160*3120 but i also want at least best quality ?
should i change the LC to 1000 samples after changing the resolution?
or should i choose different method?
this is an exterior scene and includes 18 plants, 2 trees, 2 cars, 3 buildings
my specs are
MAX 2009 x64
vray 1.5 sp4 + solidrocks 0.85b
C2Q E7500 2.93GHz
4GB RAM

Hi !
1:30.. doh ! that's long..
I guess you're using exterior preset.. right ?
first of all, i suggest to upgrade to 0.97 (see private forum).
what quality level are you using ? medium ? good ?
first thing to try : go into the regular vray panel, settings tab, and change the dynamic memory limit from 400 (default) to 1000, then try to render, to see if it's faster.
you can also edit the exterior preset (give it another name to avoid loosing it) using the following :
RESOLUTION DEPENDANT VALUES :
there's a LC multipllier here (default : 1.5).
This means that each time the image size is doubled, then LC subdivs are multiplied by 1.5.
You can lower this to, for example, 1.25. This will reduce LC subdivs on large resolutions.

that's a normal fact that the LC subdivs grows with the resolution (in theory each time the resolution double, you need to double also the LC subdivs, that's in the Vray official doc)
i've ponderted this rule into the preset editor via the resolution dependant value "LC subdivs x" : here you can enter a new multiplier (default 1.7), you can put here 1.2 or 1.4 and see how the LC subdivs are lowered when resolution grows.
For the IM, the HSPH subdivs and interp samples are NOT linked to resolution. That's why SolidRocks don't permit that.
but, min and max rate are, so in same way you can modify them into the rsolution dependant values section into the preset editor.
note : theorically each time you double the resolution the min and max rate values can be lowered by 2
for example -3 -1 in 640*480 will give same resultats than a -4 -2 at 1280 * 960
SolidRocks also iffers final customer to tweak these theorical ratios. See in the same place (resolution depdendant values)
Hope it helps !
