system recomended

system recomended was created by micbellot
Could anybody help me with this?
What is the best choice of cpu? what does really affect render times? processor? graphic card?
Is Nvida Quadro cards the best way to go? they speed up render times? how many Gb of RAM is recomended? do they have to be ECC Reg?
There are a lot of high-end machines in the market and the configuration and the price varies a lot. What, in your opinion, is the best system configuration for using MAX with Vray and SolidRocks? For the OS I always use Windows XP 64 bit.
I'll appreciate any sugestion you might have.
thanks

Hi,
well we need to separate into 2 subjects : conventional rendering (CPU) and GPU rendering (like Vray RT, Arion...)
you need to know that GPU rendering is FASTER, but it's still in early stage.. for example, complex things like displacement, complex shaders are not supported for instance by GPU rendering.
about CPU :
i assemble very often computer for customers/friends.
basically with this kind of hardware :
-motherboard : gigagyte GA-X58A-UD3R
-cpu : intel i7930
-cooler : Noctua NH-14
-and 6 or 12GB ram
-a well cooled case (like coolermaster haf 932)
Then i overclock to reach 4.0Ghz (or more !)
this kinf of computer (with graphic card like GTX460) have an average cost of 1500€ (including tax) and is very, very powerful compared to the price.
It's always cheaper to make PC assembly by yourself, and quite simple.
for overclocking, you can follow this guide :
www.tweaktown.com/news/10827/gigabyte_sh...u_to_4ghz/index.html
note : be shure to have a well cooled case and a robust CPU cooler.
64 bit OS is an obligation is you've more than 4BG of ram.
about GPU rendering : Arion needs Nvidia card (cuda). Vray RT GPU will be more versatile, it seems, as it uses OpenCL (ATI cards will be also supported, i guess).
Hope it helps !
