My CFO asked me a question I could not answer well

Hello. My CFO asked me a question I could not answer well and I would like to fix that before the next meeting. She wants to know whether purchased address space should be treated as an asset that holds value, or as a cost we write off. Her concern is that IPv6 adoption eventually makes this stuff worthless and we are buying into a declining market. I do not have data to argue either way. How are other teams framing this internally? She is not against the purchase, she just wants a defensible answer for the board, which is fair enough.

What you can tell her factually: purchased space transfers into your name at the registry, so it is a transferable asset you can resell or lease out later, unlike rent which leaves you with nothing. Demand has stayed strong because dual stack is still the operational reality for most networks and will be for years. That said, framing it as a guaranteed appreciating asset would be overselling it, and I would not do that in front of a CFO. We chose to Buy IPv4 addresses safely  , through IPv4.online mainly for control and renewal risk, not speculation. Frame it that way.
