Hi. Our kitchen has a weird layout with a door in the middle of the main wall, and every designer we talk to says it's hard to fix. We'd love a more open, functional layout. Anyone solve an awkward kitchen layout?

Hi. Awkward layouts are where good planning shows. We had a similar problem, a door right where the range should go. Alta's Seattle Kitchen Remodeling designers proposed moving the door a few feet and adding a pass-through to the dining room, which unlocked a proper work triangle and an island. They showed us 3D renderings, which made the decision easy. The new pass-through also lets me keep an eye on guests while I cook. Honestly, moving a door can involve structural or electrical work, so get a clear price before committing. The kitchen now works so much better that I don't even remember the old layout.
